Take a spin class or a Zumba class or something so that that hour of your day is one of your favorite hours and not an hour that you dread. If you’re somebody who runs five days a week, and you’re starting to dread your morning run, then mix it up a couple days a week. If you’re getting burnt out on running, find something else to supplement your workout. If I feel like I need to rest or if I feel like I need to have a good workout, even if it’s not on my set training plan-I do that. If you’re not a morning person, don’t try to run in the morning, and if you’re not a night person, don’t try to run at night. What about staying motivated for any type of workout? I would much rather bang it out and get through it. I also try to get a quality workout in, even if it’s 30 minutes. Whether it’s speed intervals or incline intervals. A lot of people will just stay on a 1.0 incline or just run at a 6.5 or something, but I like to do intervals. How do you stay motivated on the treadmill? But traveling a lot, sometimes I resort to the hotel treadmill. So I’ll run the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Bridge, the Williamsburg Bridge, and then along the West Side Highway. During marathon training I really like to run the bridges because of their incline and decline-it’s good practice. There’s a six-mile loop around the whole of Central Park, so I do that a lot. I always end up getting a better workout when I’m there than if I was just running down the West Side Highway or something. I’ve been probably a half-dozen times, and it’s very motivating. You go through a class on the treadmill, just like you would a spin class or something. It’s a really nice facility in the Noho area. There’s a new one called the Mile High Club in New York. I’m really into going to different boutique fitness studios around town. I’ve done that a couple times before-it’s good cross-training. I’m thinking about doing the New York City Triathlon, which is in July. I did two this year, and feel like I need to recoup just a little bit. I haven’t decided if I’m going to be doing any more marathons next year. Because my schedule is so crazy with the weekend morning show, reporting, and traveling a lot during the week, I sleep in shifts-I sleep about four hours at night and two hours in the afternoon.
